Sure Start Generator FAQS
Sure Start Generators is here to keep your gas-powered equipment reliable.
Below are some common questions about our services and how Sure Start can help.
Why do I need generator maintenance?
Just like a car, portable generators & all gas-powered equipment need regular maintenance to keep them running efficiently. Without routine care, fuel can go bad, parts can wear out, and your equipment may not start when you need it most.
How often should my portable generator or gas-powered equipment be serviced?
It depends on usage and storage conditions, but Sure Start recommends:
-
A check-up at least once a year
-
Running it for 15 minutes once a month to prevent fuel and battery issues
-
A full tune-up every 12–24 months, depending on use
What areas do you service?
Sure Start Generators provides mobile repairs and maintenance throughout the Conejo Valley and surrounding area.
Do you service all types of generators and fire pumps?
No. Sure Start specializes in gasoline powered portable generators and gasoline portable fire pumps but does not service whole-home standby generators or electric fire pumps.
Do you offer emergency repair services?
Sure Start offers priority scheduling for our monthly maintenance customers, but repairs are by appointment only. If your portable generator or gasoline powered equipment won’t start, book a diagnostic visit to identify and fix the issue.

Always check your manufacturer’s recommendations, but most portable generators and gas-powered equipment use:
-
Unleaded gasoline (with a stabilizer for long-term storage)

Propane or natural gas (for dual/triple-fuel models)
What should I do if my portable generator or motorized equipment won’t start?
Before calling for repairs, try these quick checks:

Check fuel levels & use fresh gas

Check that fuel valve is in the "on" position
-
Ensure the choke is set correctly
